You're planning to rent an exotic car in Canada. You've found two companies in your city. Both have a 5.0★ rating on Google. One has 8 reviews. The other has 1,185.
These are not equivalent. Knowing the difference — and knowing what else to look for — could save you from a very expensive disappointment.
After analyzing 16,000+ Google reviews across 64 luxury and exotic car rental companies in Canada, here's what we found about how review data actually breaks down in this market — and what it tells you about which companies are genuinely trustworthy.
Across the 52 companies in our database with at least one Google rating, the distribution looks like this:
At first glance, 62% of companies rated 4.5★ or above looks like a healthy market. But those numbers hide an enormous variance in what those ratings actually mean.
Among those 14 companies with a perfect 5.0★ rating, the review counts range from 1 to 3,110. A 5.0★ rating based on 2 reviews tells you almost nothing about a company's actual service quality — it likely means two friends or colleagues left reviews when the business launched, or possibly that a single bad review was successfully disputed and removed.
By contrast, a 5.0★ rating based on 3,110 reviews — like Exotic Car Tours in Brampton — represents thousands of independent customer experiences over multiple years. That's a fundamentally different signal.
14 Canadian luxury rental companies have a perfect 5.0★ rating — but review counts range from 1 to 3,110. Volume is what separates a meaningful rating from a statistical artifact.
We identified nine companies that meet what we consider a meaningful threshold: 4.8★ or higher and 100 or more reviews. These are the operators who have consistently delivered excellent experiences at scale:
These nine companies represent roughly 17% of all rated companies in our database, but they account for the overwhelming majority of total review volume and represent the most reliable experiences in the market.
One of the more striking findings in our review tag analysis is that the word "scam" appears as a significant theme across the dataset — mentioned 28 times as a prominent tag in customer reviews. This isn't a minor signal.
In a market where customers are handing over large deposits, signing unfamiliar contracts, and trusting a stranger with their credit card information for a vehicle worth $200,000+, the potential for misunderstanding — or worse, predatory practices — is real.
Common patterns in negative luxury rental reviews include:
Beyond the aggregate rating and volume, here's what to look for when reading reviews for an exotic rental company:
If five separate 1-star reviews all mention "wouldn't return deposit" or "car wasn't as advertised," that's a systemic issue, not a one-off complaint. Look for patterns, not just outliers.
How a company responds to negative reviews is as revealing as the reviews themselves. Defensive or aggressive owner responses suggest a company that doesn't take service issues seriously.
In any review ecosystem, fake reviews exist. Be sceptical of companies where a sudden burst of 5-star reviews from new accounts follows a period of negative feedback.
A company with a professional website, a fleet of Ferraris, and only 12 Google reviews after several years of operation is unusual. It could mean the company primarily operates through referrals and repeat clients — or it could mean reviews aren't being encouraged because the results would be unflattering.
Our data includes three locations of Exotic Car Collection by Enterprise — the major rental chain's attempt at the exotic car market. All three locations hold ratings of 3.9★ or lower. One Vancouver location has a 1.0★ rating. The national average for independent operators in our database is 4.43★ — a full half-point higher.
Enterprise's Exotic Car Collection locations average 3.9★ across three Canadian cities — nearly half a star below the 4.43★ average of the independent operators in our database.
Brand recognition from a major rental chain does not translate to a superior exotic car rental experience. In this market specifically, the independents consistently outperform.
We recommend requiring at least 50 Google reviews before trusting a rating, with 100+ being the preferred threshold. A 5.0★ rating from 2 reviews tells you almost nothing — it likely means friends or colleagues left early reviews. A 4.9★ rating from 5,742 reviews (like GTA Exotics in Mississauga) represents thousands of independent customer experiences and is a fundamentally more reliable signal.
The national average Google rating across 52 rated luxury and exotic car rental companies in our database is 4.43★. However, this varies significantly: 62% of companies are rated 4.5★ or above, while 4% are below 3.5★. Independent operators consistently outperform major chain alternatives in this market.
No — based on our data, Enterprise's Exotic Car Collection locations average 3.9★ across three Canadian cities, with one Vancouver location at 1.0★. This is nearly half a star below the 4.43★ national average for independent operators. Brand recognition from a major rental chain does not translate to a superior exotic car rental experience. Independent operators consistently outperform in this specific market segment.
The most common red flags include: patterns of low reviews mentioning the same issue (e.g., deposit disputes), owner responses that argue with customers, sudden bursts of 5-star reviews from new accounts following negative feedback, and very low review counts for an established-looking business. The word "scam" appears 28 times as a prominent theme across our review database — common patterns include unexpected charges, disputes over pre-existing damage, and security deposits held beyond promised return periods.
The top-rated companies with significant review volume (100+ reviews) are: GTA Exotics in Mississauga (4.9★, 5,742 reviews), Exotic Car Tours in Brampton (5.0★, 3,110 reviews), Ultimate Exotics in Hamilton (5.0★, 1,185 reviews), Supercar Experiences in Calgary (4.9★, 926 reviews), and Montreal Exotic Experience (4.9★, 639 reviews). These nine operators meeting our gold standard threshold represent the most reliable experiences in the Canadian market.
This analysis is based on LuxuryCarRental.ca's proprietary database of 64 verified luxury and exotic car rental companies across 14 Canadian cities, as of March 2026. Ratings and review counts are sourced from Google Maps via our data enrichment pipeline and reflect public review data at the time of indexing. Review tags were aggregated from our enrichment data and reflect the most prominent themes appearing in reviews across the platform; the presence of a tag (e.g., "scam") indicates it was a notable theme in Google review content for at least one company in our index, not that every company in the database has received scam-related complaints. Our database represents a subset of all luxury rental operators in Canada — there are likely excellent companies not yet indexed here. The "gold standard" threshold (4.8★+, 100+ reviews) is our editorial judgment, not a certification.
